German Inventor Develops Ball, Socket Joints

ALEXANDRIA, Va., Feb. 3 -- Joachim Spratte of Osnabruck, Germany, has developed ball and socket joint with a pivoting angle sensor for detecting the relative angular position of the joint housing and the ball pivot.

An abstract of the invention, released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, said: "The pivoting angle of the joint ball is detected by a measuring means comprising a magnet and a magnetic field sensor.
