The Norton Company dates back to 1858 when two Bennington Vermont men, Franklin Norton and Frederick Hancock, founded a pottery shop in Worcester, Massachusetts. The shop was relocated to 41 Water Street after its original location on Washington Square was undermined by railroad construction.
