Japanese Inventors Develop Terbium Type Paramagnetic Garnet Single Crystal

ALEXANDRIA, Va., Jan. 30 -- Takenori Sekijima of Kusatsu, Japan, and Mikio Geho of Otsu, Japan, have developed a terbium type paramagnetic garnet single crystal and a magneto-optical device.

According to the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, the invention relates to a "terbium type paramagnetic garnet single crystal having a high Faraday effect and a high light transmission factor even in a visible range, as well as a high Verdet constant. A magneto-optical device containing the terbium type paramagnetic garnet single crystal."
