By an odd confluence of history, two milestones (or is that millstones?) in the painful Iraq War occurred almost simultaneously last week.

At the same time that America suffered the death of its 3,000th soldier in this misbegotten war, the object of this pursuit - Saddam Hussein himself - was hanged for the crimes he committed against the Iraqi people.

At one time, it might have seemed that this latter event was one of those signature moments of the war, much as when it was revealed that Hussein, after several months in hiding immediately after the invasion of Iraq, was finally discovered, ...
