Although postoperative radiotherapy (RT) for early breast cancer treated by lumpectomy is an established treatment, the issue of optimal RT fractionation schedule remains unresolved. The most widely employed schedule for whole breast irradiation is 50 Gy in 25 fractions, while a variety of shorter (hypofractionated) RT schedules have also been used in clinical practice.
