STALIN'S RELUCTANT SOLDIERS-A SOCIAL HISTORY OF THE RED ARMY, 1925-1941 by Roger R Reese (University Press of Kansas, Kansas, 1996), f35, 268 pages
In general, this is an interesting work, especially in its presentation of much useful information about the actual service and living conditions of the officers and men of the Red Army in the inter-war years. However the book is far from being a descriptive analysis of what it was like to serve in the Red Army during 1925-1941. In the opening paragraph of the book's preface, Reese states:
