Abstract: This essay analyzes the role of the botanica (ethnic healing store) among the Latino population of New York City. It examines how botanicas provide health care services to an ethnically diverse clientele. At the same time, the study reviews the specialized knowledge base and hierarchical roles that healers have among the community that seeks their services.
