The line is the most basic element of drawing, and an ingenuous quality of line is essential

to expressive drawing. The expressive potential of line becomes apparent when we

consider the drawings in Figure 1 and observe how each displays an individual, uncompromising, and revealing quality of line. Michelangelo's line exhibits power through the forceful application and release of pressure; Toulouse Lautrec embellished his line with
