In 1955, Judith Anderson toured Australia in Robinson Jeffers' adaptation of Euripides' Medea to mark the birth of the Australian Elizabethan Theatre Trust. This tour played a crucial role in the development of Anderson's celebrity - giving her the opportunity to advertise her 'innate' Australian identity and to broadcast her 'high' cultural status.
