Lift irrigation schemes are playing an important role in the economy of the cultivators in Kolhapur district. Most of the lift irrigation schemes are installed on the river banks during last 40 years. About SOO lifts are in operation in this district. There are three types of lift irrigation schemes, i.e., co-operative lifts, sugar factory lifts and private lifts.
