Fracture toughness testing was performed on the recently developed lean duplex stainless steel LDX 2101 (EN 1.4162, UNS S32101). The results were evaluated by master curve analysis, including deriving a reference temperature. The master curve approach, originally developed for ferritic steels, has been used successfully. The reference temperature corresponds to a fracture toughness of 100 MPa[the square root of]m, which characterizes the onset of cleavage cracking at elastic or elastic-plasti...

Relationship between Fracture Toughness, Fracture Path, and Microstructure of 7050 Aluminum Alloy: Part II. Multiple Micromechanisms-Based Fracture Toughness Model
Metallurgical and Materials Transactions ; A multiple micromechanisms-based model is developed to quantitatively relate the fracture toughness of partially recrystallized 7XXX aluminum alloys to their fracture surface morphology. The model is verified using the experimental data on partially recrystallized 7050 alloy reported in the
Scientists develop new methodology for fracture toughness assessment
JOM ; Ohio State University scientists have developed a new methodology to assess the fracture toughness of ultrathin coatings. Based on the energy release in through-thickness cracking in the coatings, which can be obtained from a step observed in the load-placement curve in nanoindentation, the
Analysis of Fracture Toughness in the Transition Temperature Region of API X70 Pipeline Steels Rolled in Two-Phase Region
Metallurgical and Materials Transactions ; In this study, fracture toughness in the transition temperature region of three API X70 line pipe steels rolled in the two-phase 945; + γ) region was analyzed in accordance with the ASTM E192105 standard test method. Elastic-plastic cleavage fracture toughness (K^sub Jc^) was determined by
Analysis of fracture toughness in the transition-temparature region of an Mn-Mo-Ni low-alloy steel
Metallurgical and Materials Transactions ; This study is concerned with the analysis of fracture toughness in the transition region of an Mn-Mo-Ni low-alloy steel, in accordance with the ASTM E1921 standard test method. Elastic-plastic cleavage fracture toughness (K^sub Jc^) was determined by three-point bend tests, using precracked Charpy
Palmqvist Fracture Toughness of a New Wear-Resistant Weld Alloy
Metallurgical and Materials Transactions ; The Palmqvist fracture toughness method was applied in a new fashion to measure the fracture toughness of a new wear-resistant alloy in both a powder product for plasma-transferred arc (PTA) welding and a wire product for metal inert gas (MIG) welding. Cracks were observed at high loads with a
