Holy hammerhead - sharks can tan!

Chris Lowe was collecting hammerhead shark pups from Kaneohe Bay's murky depths for study in Coconut Island ponds when his wife noticed that their color was changing.
"The strange thing is, we were putting them in shallow ponds; the sand is white, but the sharks were turning black," he said.
Gwen Goodman-Lowe, who had studied the effects of ultraviolet radiation on coral bleaching for her master's degree, told her husband, "I think these sharks are suntanning."
"She said, 'I bet it's because of higher light levels the sharks are experiencing here than in the bay floor," Lowe said.
