The need for increased storage capacity in today's data storage technology has created a continuing need to study the tribological performance of magnetic tape. Lateral tape motion (LTM) is one important area of ongoing tribological research. The objective of the study presented in this article is to determine the effects different magnetic tapes and operating parameters have on LTM.
