Adverse tissue reactions to wear particles from Co-alloy articulations, increased by alumina-blasting particle contamination from cementless Ti-based total hip implants: A report...
|
We revised seven alumina-blasted cementless hip prostheses (Ti-alloy stems, cp Ti threaded
sockets) with low- or high-carbon Co-alloy bearings at a mean of 20.1 months after implantation because of pain and loosening. Histological examination of the retrieved periprosthetic tissues from two cases in which the implant was stable and three in which the socket was loose showed macrophages with basophilic granules containing metal and alumina wear particles and lymph-cell infiltrates. In ...

Correlation of hardness with MFFT and CPVC of latex/ceramic coatings.
The Journal of Coatings Technology
; Abstract Hardness, porosity, and microstructure of film-forming in polyvinyl acetate/alumina coatings from aqueous suspensions were investigated with a minimum film formation temperature (MFFT) bar, Vickers hardness tester, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The hardness of opaque composite

Quantitative comparison of wear debris from UHMWPE that and has not been sterilised by gamma irradiation
Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery
; Ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) components for total joint replacement generate wear particles which cause adverse biological tissue reactions leading to osteolysis and loosening. Sterilisation of UHMWPE components by gamma irradiation in air causes chain scissions which initiate

Monte Carlo simulation of clustering of alumina particles in turbulent liquid aluminum
Metallurgical and Materials Transactions
; A Monte Carlo method was developed to simulate the formation of clusters of alumina particles suspended in a turbulent pure liquid aluminum melt. With this approach, the chaotic movements of small alumina particles suspended within eddies smaller than the Kolmogoroff microscale were treated in a

A Surface Texturing Approach for Cleaner Disc Brakes
Tribology Transactions
; Brake dust generated in vehicle brakes causes discoloration of wheels and, more importantly, the emission of particles suspected of health hazard in the environment. Laboratory testing of brake pad materials against cast iron discs revealed that the majority of wear particles are submicrometer in

Friction of undulated surfaces coated with MoS2 by pulsed laser deposition
Tribology Transactions
; Solid lubricants such as molybdenum disulfide can provide very low friction, but their effectiveness especially in the geometrically constrained sliding pairs is limited by plowing of coated surfaces by wear particles. Even in the presence of solid lubricants wear particles cause higher friction by
