Variation of chemical composition of clinopyroxenes in basaltic volcanic rocks, including lavas and shallow intrusions of the Doupovské hory Volcanic Complex, was studied. High Ca (mostly over 90% of M2 site) and Mg contents of analyzed clinopyroxenes qualify them as diopsides. With respect to Al and Ti admixtures, full name of titanian aluminian diopside should be used in most cases. The name augite, traditionally used in older literature without support by analytical data, is no more appli...

Apatite fission track implications for timing of hydrothermal fluid flow in Tertiary volcanics of the Bohemian Massif
Journal of Geosciences ; Late Cretaceous to Palaeogene subvolcanic/volcanic rocks from the Bohemian Massif were subjected to apatite fission track (AFT) and K-Ar dating. Striking discrepancies between the AFT and K-Ar ages encountered in most samples cannot be explained by slow cooling rates because of the small sizes and

Journal of the Czech Geological Society ; Sand-dominated residual sediments of Oligocene or pre-Oligocene age are exposed at the Detan locality. They form several tens of centimetres thick lenses encrusted by secondary silica cement. These silicified lenses yielded a biogenic structure, probably a nesting chamber of hymenopterid insects,
Trace element zoning in metamorphic minerals
Mineralogical Record ; Zoned amphiboles and clinopyroxenes in a garnet amphibolite from the Nyurundukan ophiolitic complex, in the northwest Baikal region, have been analyzed by electron microprobe for major elements and by ion microprobe for their REE, Cr, Ti, V, Zr, Y, and Nb content. The samples investigated contain

A New Natural LPO Type of Clinopyroxene: Evidence from EBSD Study of Eclogite Xenoliths from Kaapvaal Craton, South Africa
Geolines ; Introduction of EBSD method during nineties allowed detailed measurement of lattice-preferred orientation (LPO) of clinopyroxene, a principal mineral of "orogenic eclogites", naturally deformed between 500 and 900C in order to characterize rheology and petrophysical properties of subducted oceanic
