Caldwell runs for new 16th district State Senate seat

Once an aide to former Mayor Eugene Sawyer, the politically astute Melvin Caldwell, 42, now a seasoned lawyer, has decided to run for a state Senate seat in the newly created 16th District with a mission and an agenda for social and economic change.

Caldwell, who was the late Mayor Harold Washington's Sixth Ward and South Side precinct's coordinator for the 1983 mayoral campaign, is running in the same district as his former political foe, Rep. Charles Morrow (D-26th), whom he ran against in 1986.
