Abstract

Metabolic hormone profiles and their associations with measures of body fat and reproduction were evaluated among Angus, Brangus, and Brahman heifers (n = 8/breed). Heifers of similar age from breeding programs in semi-arid environments were pen-fed for 10 wk prior to their yearling breeding season. At the beginning of this 10-wk period, heifers were 317 ± 8.6 d of age. Subsequently, heifers were exposed to breeding for 12 wk as they grazed the Chihnahuan Desert. Despite grea...

How much vitamin D is enough?
Townsend Letter: The Examiner of Alternative Medicine ; This review article summarized research that evaluated the relation between serum concentrations of 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25[OH]D) and bone mineral density, lower-extremity function, dental health, and risk of falls, fractures, and colorectal cancer. For all endpoints, the most advantageous serum
Low maternal serum concentrations of human chorionic gonadotropin as part of the triple test screening: A follow-up study
Journal of Maternal - Fetal & Neonatal Medicine ; Objective: To determine whether low maternal serum concentrations of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) were associated with poor pregnancy outcome. Methods: Between 1999 and 2000, 20 880 women underwent triple test screening in our hospital. The levels of hCG were detected by fluorescent
Fluconazole-carbamazepine interaction.
Southern Medical Journal ; ABSTRACT The patient we describe had elevated carbamazepine serum concentrations during concomitant fluconazole administration (400 mg/day), including serial concentrations both before and after antifungal therapy. Since fluconazole is a known inhibitor of the cytochrome P-450 enzyme system, this
CASE STUDY: A Chihuahuan Desert Brangus Breeding Program: Feed Efficiency, Metabolic Hormones, and Puberty in Heifers Sired by Bulls with Differing Expected Progeny Differences for Growth and Scrotal Circumference1,2
Professional Animal Scientist ; Abstract Our objectives were to evaluate growth, feed intake characteristics, metabolic hormones, and puberty in heifers from a Chihuahuan Desert Brangus breeding program. Heifers were of similar age and progeny of sires (n ≥ 7 heifers per sire) with expected progeny difference [EPD
Serum concentrations of retinol, (alpha)-tocopherol and the carotenoids are influenced by diet, race and obesity in a sample of healthy adolescents

Demographic, dietary and lifestyle factors differentially explain variability in serum carotenoids and fat-soluble vitamins: Baseline results from the sentinel site of the Olestra post-marketing surveillance study
The Journal of Nutrition ; Demographic, Dietary and Lifestyle Factors Differentially Explain Variability in Serum Carotenoids and Fat-Soluble Vitamins: Baseline Results from the Sentinel Site of the Olestra Post-Marketing Surveillance Study' ABSTRACT Biochemical measures of nutrients or other dietary constituents can be an
Vestibular Toxicity Due to Inhaled Tobramycin in a Patient With Renal Insufficiency
Mayo Clinic Proceedings ; Inhaled tobramycin is being used increasingly in patients with cystic fibrosis and other forms of bronchiectasis for treatment of bronchial colonization with Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The goal of inhaled antibiotics is to provide maximal concentrations at the site of infection without risking
Disturbed Homocysteine and Methionine Cycle Intermediates S-Adenosylhomocysteine and S-Adenosylmethionine Are Related to Degree of Renal Insufficiency in Type 2 Diabetes
Clinical Chemistry ; Background: Diabetic nephropathy is a common complication in patients with type 2 diabetes that may increase atherothrombotic risk. Hyperhomocysteinemia (HHcy) further increases the risk in those patients. We studied concentrations of total homocysteine (tHcy) and its related metabolites
Lipocalin-2 Is an Inflammatory Marker Closely Associated with Obesity, Insulin Resistance, and Hyperglycemia in Humans
Clinical Chemistry ; Background: Lipocalin-2, a 25-kDa secreted glycoprotein, is a useful biomarker for early detection of various renal injuries. Because lipocalin-2 is abundantly expressed in adipose tissue and liver, we investigated its relevance to obesity-related pathologies. Methods: We used real-time PCR and
