Moment redistribution

Design codes acknowledge the non-linear behaviour at the ultimate limit state (ULS) by permitting a limned amount of moment redistribution from one part of the structure to another. This is very useful for design purposes, as bending moments can be transferred around a structure leading to simplification of the reinforcement layout or, with bonding moment envelopes, worthwhile economies in the amount of reinforcement that to actually required.
