Oldest Living Roseate Spoonbill Tells All

Louis Wolfson dreams of big pink birds covering the skies of South Florida.
A couple years ago Wolfson, a fifth-generation Floridian who is president of Key West's Audubon House and Tropical Garden, went to Miami Metrozoo and inquired about repopulating flamingos in Florida.
"I was educated over the course of the next year that flamingos are a very difficult breed to work with because they're so anti-social. They take huge rookeries to re-establish," Wolfson says. "They talked me out of that idea with flamingos but they said, 'Big pink birds? How about the spoonbill?'"
