Context.-Nephrogenic adenoma is a rare benign lesion of the urinary tract. Owing to its strong association with a history of urinary tract irritation, nephrogenic adenoma was initially thought to originate from urothelial metaplasia; however, no solid proof of this association has been found. More recent investigation has pointed to a renal tubular cause. In addition to its uncertain origin, there can be diagnostic difficulty in distinguishing nephrogenic adenoma from prostatic carcinoma, par...

Leptospiral membrane proteins - variations on a theme?
Indian Journal of Medical Research ; Leptospirosis is considered to be the most widespread zoonosis in the world1, reflecting the ability of the causative spirochetes to adapt to the renal tubules of a wide variety of mammalian reservoir hosts. Transmission to humans occurs either through direct contact with an infected animal or
EARLY ONSET HYPERKALEMIA IN PREMATURE BABIES
Journal of Maternal - Fetal & Neonatal Medicine ; Background: Early onset hyperkalemia is associated with a high morbidity and mortality in premature babies. It is thought to be due to a transient deficiency in Na/K ATPase resulting in reduced potassium secretion by renal tubules. Aim: To determine the incidence and risk factors of early onset
Expression of metallothionein in renal tubules of rats exposed to acute and endurance exercise
Folia Histochemica et Cytobiologica ; Abstract: The induction of exercise-induced apoptosis in not actively involved in exercise organs, such as kidney could be a result of oxidative stress. Metallothionein (MT) exerts a protective effect in the cell against oxidative stress and apoptosis. We have previously demonstrated an increased
Nested Variant of Urothelial Carcinoma
Archives of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine ; Nested variant of urothelial carcinoma is a rare neoplasm that is histologically characterized by large numbers of small, closely packed, haphazardly arranged, poorly de- fined, confluent irregular nests of bland-appearing urothelial cells infiltrating the lamina propria and the muscularis propria.

Renal type clear cell carcinoma of prostate
Indian Journal of Surgery ; Sir, Clear cell carcinomas of the urinary tract often present a diagnostic challenge. Renal-type clear cell adenocarcinoma occurring as a primary tumor in an extra renal location, especially in prostate is very rare and was first described in 2003. A 64-year-old patient presented with indwelling
Transient Receptor Potential-Like Channels Are Essential for Calcium Signaling and Fluid Transport in a Drosophila Epithelium
Genetics ; ABSTRACT Calcium signaling is an important mediator of neuropeptide-stimulated fluid transport by Drosophila Malpighian (renal) tubules. We demonstrate the first epithelial role, in vivo, for members of the TRP family of calcium channels. RT-PCR revealed expression of trp, trpl, and trpγ in
Less-invasive treatments effective for some types of cancer: freezing or heating tumors works as well as surgery for some patients.(CANCER)
Health News ; Aggressive treatments to cure cancer can pose intolerable risks for certain vulnerable patients. Several recent studies have examined alternative treatments that are less invasive than open surgery, such as percutaneous cryoablation and laparoscopic cryoablation (both methods destroy the tumor by
Mode of Action: Oxalate Crystal-Induced Renal Tubule Degeneration and Glycolic Acid-Induced Dysmorphogenesis-Renal and Developmental Effects of Ethylene Glycol
Critical Reviews in Toxicology ; Ethylene glycol can cause both renal and developmental toxicity, with metabolism playing a key role in the mode of action (MOA) for each form of toxicity. Renal toxicity is ascribed to the terminal metabolite oxalic acid, which precipitates in the kidney in the form of calcium oxalate crystals and
