Abstract

Our objectives were to evaluate growth, feed intake characteristics, metabolic hormones, and puberty in heifers from a Chihuahuan Desert Brangus breeding program. Heifers were of similar age and progeny of sires (n ≥ 7 heifers per sire) with expected progeny difference [EPD (accuracy)] for yearling BW (kg) and scrotal circumference (cm) of 27.6 (0.54) and 0.1 (0.42) for a large growth-moderate scrotal circumference sire (LGMSC), 16.4 (0.59) and 0.9 (0.47) for a moderate growth-large scrotal circumference sire (MG-LSC), and 17.8 (0.54) and 0.4 (0.37) for a sire with balanced EPD ...
