The Meliata Unit with bluschist facies metamorphic rocks, exposed in the western part of the Gemericum, occurs in several localities around the Stítnik and Nizná Slaná area. It forms tectonic slices overlying the early Paleozoic greenschist facies sedimentary and volcanic rocks with late Paleozoic metaconglomerates and also occurs beneath the unmetamorphosed or very low-grade metamorphosed Silica (Turna) Nappe formed mostly by limestones and dolomites. The Meliata and related rocks can be ...

Structure and Petrology of the Western Part of the Meliata Unit, West Carpathians

Pre-Conference Fieldtrip: Structure and Metamorphism of the Meliata Unit
Geolines ; Blueschist facies rocks are known from two suture zones in the Western Carpathians, the Meliata unit and the Pieniny Klippen Belt. In the Meliata unit, blueschists are exposed on surface, but in the Klippen Belt only pebbles of different blueschist varieties were found in the Middle Cretaceous
Origin and Metamorphic Evolution of Blueschists and Very Low-Grade Rocks of the Meliata Unit, Western Carpathians
Geolines ; Numerous petrological data on the blueschist facies rocks of the Meliata Unit have been obtained during the last decade (e.g. Faryad, 1995, Ivan and Kronome, 1996). Recently we have examined the very low-grade rocks (Arkai et al., 2003), which occur in the vicinity of this unit and obtained new
P-T Conditions and an Extent of the First Alpine Deformation Event Recorded in the Vepor Unit, West Carpathians
Geolines ; The Vepor unit composed of Variscan basement and Late Palaeozoic to Mesozoic cover sequences is one of the major crustal segments incorporated into the Alpine structure of the Central West Carpathians. Two Alpine deformation events are recorded in this unit. The first one is characterized by the
New Occurrence of Variscan Micaschists within the Jurassic Meliata Unite, Western Carpathians
Geolines ; PT conditions of the middle Jurassic metamorphism in the Meliata rocks, exposed on surface, range from very low-grade through high-pressure greenschist to blueschist facies. Amphibolite facies rocks (garnet-hornblende gneiss and amphibolite from Rudnik and micaschist from Zadiel) occurring in the
Geochronological Constraints of Mesozoic and Tertiary Reworking of Paleozoic Basement Units in SW Carpathians
Geolines ; We present a set of twenty new K-Ar cooling ages from metamorphic rocks of Vepor and Gemer units. The rocks have been collected in agreement with recently defined structural succession of deformations in southern part of West Carpathians (Lexa and Schulmann 2003). These authors interpreted the
Zircon fission-track dating of granites from the Vepor-Gemer Belt (Western Carpathians): constraints for the Early Alpine exhumation history
Journal of the Czech Geological Society ; We present new zircon fission-track (ZFT) data from Variscan granitoid bodies in the Veporic (footwall unit) and Gemeric (hangingwall unit) thick-skinned nappe sheets of the Central Western Carpathians. All samples show Late Cretaceous to earliest Paleogene cooling ZFT ages, which contribute to
Nappe Contact as a Tool of Paleotectonic Reconstruction (Inner Western Carpathians a Case of Study)
Geolines ; Investigated areas are situated along northern part of the Gemericum (Margecany-Dobsin-Vernr vicinity), and in the Veporicum (Tisovec-L'ubietov vicinity). Lithostratigraphic record and radiometric data were used to estimate of age individualization of different tectonic unit. Lowermost tectonic
Geometry and regional significance of Neoproterozoic (Cadomian) structures of the Narcea Antiform, NW Spain
Journal of the Geological Society ; Abstract: The Narcea Antiform is located at the hinterland-to-foreland transition of the Variscan belt in the NW of the Iberian massif. It consists of an antiformal stack of fault-propagation folds that developed in the hanging wall of allochthonous thrust sheets during the first Variscan
