ABSTRACT
The effect of lysis timing on bacteriophage (phage) fitness has received little theoretical or experimental attention. Previously, the impact of lysis timing on phage fitness was studied using a theoretical model based on the marginal value theorem from the optimal foraging theory. An implicit conclusion of the model is that, for any combination of host quantity and quality, an optimal time to lyse the host would exist so that the phage fitness would be the highest. To test th...

Altering Renneting pH Changes Microstructure, Cell Distribution, and Lysis of Lactococcus lactis AM2 in Cheese Made from Ultrafiltered Milk
Journal of Dairy Science
; ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to investigate the lysis of a highly autolytic strain of Lactococcus lactis ssp. cremoris AM2 in a model cheese made from concentrated ultrafiltered milk. From the same initial ultrafiltered retentate inoculated with L. lactis AM2, 5 cheeses were made by the

Surface Cyclones in the ERA-40 Dataset (1958-2001). Part I: Novel Identification Method and Global Climatology
Journal of the Atmospheric Sciences
; ABSTRACT A novel method is introduced to generate climatological frequency distributions of meteorological features from gridded datasets. The method is used here to derive a climatology of extratropical cyclones from sea level pressure (SLP) fields. A simple and classical conception of cyclones is

Acute tumor lysis syndrome in a patient with mixed small cell and non-small cell tumor
Mayo Clinic Proceedings
; Case Report Tumor lysis syndrome, caused by massive tumor cell death, is an infrequent occurrence in solid tumors, and only a few cases of tumor lysis syndrome occurring in patients with lung cancer have been reported. We present a case of tumor lysis syndrome in a patient with mixed small cell and

Rasburicase (Elitek): a novel agent for tumor lysis syndrome.(Pharmacology Notes)(Drug overview)
Baylor University Medical Center Proceedings
; The overall incidence of tumor lysis syndrome in adults is not well defined, and its occurrence can be unpredictable. Several strategies are available for the prevention and treatment of tumor lysis syndrome, with rasburicase being the most recent. Rasburicase is a recombinant urate oxidase enzyme

Pulsed Laser Microbeam-Induced Cell Lysis: Time-Resolved Imaging and Analysis of Hydrodynamic Effects
Biophysical Journal
; ABSTRACT Time-resolved imaging was used to examine the use of pulsed laser microbeam irradiation to produce cell lysis. Lysis was accomplished through the delivery of 6 ns, λ = 532 nm laser pulses via a 40 , 0.8 NA objective to a location 10 m above confluent monolayers of PtK^sub 2^ cells.
