ABSTRACT
The change in the frequency of a rare mutant allele under constant sex-differentiated viability selection in an infinite, partial full-sib mating population is studied. The diplo-diploid and haplo-diploid polygynous models are considered with a Poisson distribution for the number of offspring produced by every mated female. Reproduction is followed by weak selection among the offspring and then mating to form the next generation. It is shown that the rate of change with respec...

Kin Selection in Human Populations: Theory Reconsidered
Human Biology
; Abstract Past considerations of kin selection have assumed a dyadic fitness exchange relationship between altruist and recipient. This approach does not account for all alleles affected by altruistic behavior. This can be corrected by focusing on matings rather than on individuals. I present a

Evolutionists at war over altruism's origins
The Independent - London
; An intellectual war of words has broken out between two of the world's leading evolutionists. Oxford University's Richard Dawkins and Harvard's Edward Wilson have gone head to head over the evolution of altruism in the animal kingdom, and whether it can have come about as a result of something

Psychological aspects of adaptations for kin directed altruistic helping behaviors
Social Behavior and Personality
; This questionnaire study sheds light on the psychological component of kin selecting tendencies predicted by Hamilton's (1964b) inclusive fitness theory of discriminatory altruistic behavior based on genetic similarity. Participants rated donations of assistance aiding survival and material wealth

Young armadillos just wanna be friends. (juvenile armadillos do not act as hostile toward one another as do adult armadillos)(Brief Article)
Science News
; Juvenile armadillos don't exactly team up to stroll around the mall together, but their calm acceptance of other juveniles, even nonrelated youngsters, has surprised researchers. It was the opposite of what we expected, says James Loughry of Valdosta (Ga.) State University. Adult armadillos are

The science of eeeeek: what a squeak can tell researchers about life, society, and all that.
Science News
; A vervet monkey may not use megaphones in nature, but it can sound three types of alarm calls, each inspiring a different flight or hiding behavior in nearby monkeys. Among the esoteric pleasures of the World Wide Web is a site offering a medley of chirps made by alarmed marmots around the world.

Why older dads may be bad for girls.
The Daily Mail (London, England)
