OBITUARY: Alaric Dickinson: 1940-2005

Alaric Dickinson began his teaching career in Essex, and subsequently moved to the Institute of Education at the University of London to teach and research in what was then the History Department. He stayed there until 1998, when he 'retired' to travel round the world in connection with his work for the International Baccalaureate.

Alaric's lifelong preoccupation was with children's and adolescents' thinking: how they reasoned, what ideas they employed, and how they saw history and the past. He was above all a teacher. He enjoyed nothing so much as to be talking with, and especially listening ...
