Scottish identity is 'a myth to protect the British Empire'; Historian's shock claim on birth of tartanry

THE pillars of modern Scottish identity, from the national dress
to the imagery of Highland landscapes, were created by a rich elite
to ensure the country reaped the profits generated by the British
Empire, according to Scotland's best-selling historian.
In his new book, Professor Tom Devine claims the notion of
