W HEN Captain Robert Barclay Allardice captured the attention of a
nation in 1809 by accepting a challenge to run "a thousand miles in a
1,000 hours for a 1,000 guineas", not even the Brahan Seer could have
foreseen his induction into the inaugural Scottish Sports Hall of
Fame almost 200 years later.
