Heart of faith: Charleston artist uses creation of spiritually inspired repousse works as time for meditation

Joe Bolyard expresses his faith through artwork. He enjoys
painting and sculpting but his specialty is repousse, a process that
involves using small tools to push images into thin metal.
"It's almost like embossing," said Bolyard, who loves making
religious icons that he either gives to friends or sells at a nominal
cost because he believes everyone should be able to afford
inspirational artwork. A personal benefit is that he meditates while
he works.
Bolyard, 33, lives in an artsy apartment on Quarrier Street in the
