George Murad, founder of restaurant, dies at 89

George Ragie Murad, 89, who founded Murad's Bar and Grill in Charleston's East End in 1949, died Tuesday.

Murad was a cook in the Army when he was stationed in Alaska, said his son, Ronald.

"When he came back he taught my mom," said Murad. "He came up with the Murad's chili recipe. He originated all the recipes at the restaurant."

"We were all raised in the restaurant," he said. "My mom used to take us down there in strollers."
