Governor chides retailer over 'gene pool' T-shirt: Letter to CEO lists state's achievements,; prominent citizens

A state receiving high marks for education reform and national defense doesn't have a problem with its gene pool, Gov. Bob Wise says in a letter to an Ohio-based T-shirt retailer.

Abercrombie & Fitch has come out with a T-shirt bearing the slogan, "West Virginia No Lifeguard At The Gene Pool." Earlier this year, the New Albany, Ohio, company sold T-shirts saying, "West Virginia It's All Relative."

In a letter sent Wednesday to Michael Jeffries, chief executive officer of Abercrombie & Fitch, Wise points out some of the state's more prominent citizens - including Jessica Lynch ...
