Marple faces new challenges to bridge achievement gap, State school official will institute lessons from her own book

Former Kanawha County Schools Superintendent Jorea Marple has literally written the book on school improvement.

She'll institute lessons from her text, "An Insider's Guide to Making School Systems Work," in her new assistant superintendent position with the West Virginia Department of Education.

Marple was selected for her new post by the state Board of Education on Thursday.

The new position, created to address implementation of the Legislature's initiative to bridge the achievement gap, presents new challenges to Marple.
