Libya to Cooperate With France on Probe; Defiance of U.S., Britain on Demand for Pan Am 103 Bombing Suspects Continues

Libya agreed yesterday to cooperate with France's investigation of the 1989 blowing up of a UTA airliner over Africa but indicated it will continue to defy U.S. and British demands to hand over two suspects in the 1988 bombing of a Pan American jetliner over Lockerbie, Scotland.

The Libyan position, described in a report by U.N. Secretary General Boutros Boutros-Ghali, was Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi's response to a Security Council resolution adopted Jan. 21, demanding cooperation on the two bombing incidents that killed a total of 441 people.
