'Little details' delaying Clay Center debut: Official opts for subtle start, vows opening by July

ALTHOUGH Clay Center officials had hoped to open the arts and sciences facility in May, President Sue Sergi said the date will be more like late June or July.

After having to scrap a spring schedule of events because the long- planned Feb. 19 opening date fell through, however, the Clay Center, with a total price tag of $118 million, is taking a different tack the second time around.

Sergi said the Clay Center likely will have a "soft opening," which will give construction workers time to smooth out any kinks before an extravagant grand opening is held.
