Union Carbide ruled liable in suit: Ruling prevents another hearing in asbestos case

In the courthouse battle over asbestos liability, Union Carbide lost another skirmish.

Barbour and Taylor Circuit Judge Alan Moats ruled this week that the company, wholly owned by Dow, is liable for exposing more than 100 of its West Virginia workers to potentially dangerous amounts of asbestos. The ruling blocked Union Carbide from defending itself at a significant asbestos trial slated to begin in downtown Charleston next week.
