Fred Astaire never knew it, but he was a big influence on me. I recall watching his old movies on television when I was growing up and admiring the way he could make a woman fall in love with him just by dancing with her. That was a neat trick, I thought. Although I never expected to dance as well as Astaire, I wished for years that I could at least hold my own on a dance floor.
