`We Thought Arts and Crafts Meant Macrame and Making Pottery'

With its shingled upper story and steeply pitched twin roof peaks,
the house of Timothy and Tricia Davis is reminiscent of the work of a
British practitioner of the Arts and Crafts movement, C.F.A. Voysey.
The house sits not in England, but in Northwest Washington. And
although it appears to be one of a legion of picturesque Arts and
Crafts dwellings - from bungalows, half-timbered Tudors, stucco and
shingled cottages to Prairie School houses - that were erected from
coast to coast in the first two decades of this century, most of this
one is a recent creation of a Washington architect.
