Networks Balk at White House Bills;Travel Office Questioned on Steep Air Fare for Clinton's Asia Trip

The four major television networks covering the White House have refused to pay their bills for the president's trip to Asia this summer because they believe the air fare was too high. "We felt they were out of whack in terms of cost," said Bill Headline, the CNN Washington bureau chief who was the pool chairman at the time of the trip. CNN sent 11 people on various parts of the trip and was billed about $87,000 for air fare. "We said we're not going to pay these {bills} until we have some answers."
