The Rev. Dr. Edward L.R. Elson Dies; National Presbyterian Church Pastor

The Rev. Dr. Edward L.R. Elson, 86, former chaplain of the U.S. Senate and pastor of National Presbyterian Church from 1946 until 1973, died of congestive heart failure and complications related to Parkinson's disease Aug. 25 at the Presbyterian Home in Washington.

Dr. Elson was also author of 11 books, a World War II Army chaplain in Europe and a former president of the Washington Federation of Churches. In Washington, and earlier in Los Angeles, he had been moderator of the Presbytery, the highest office of the Presbyterian Church.
