In their own mountain milieu, bighorn sheep move with deliberate
grace across precipitous slopes that would make two-legged
interlopers reach for a climbing rope.
Turn bighorns into the interlopers in another environment, though,
and they become vulnerable.
Vulnerable to cars, obviously. That's why Richard Parker's breath
caught in his throat last August when he saw two young bighorn sheep
poised at the road's edge just across State Route 410 from his Nile
Valley ranch.
But very vulnerable, also, to diseases. Domestic sheep commonly
carry pathogens ...
