Shooting victim faced challenges; Barnum was ready to begin a new chapter

Brenda Hewey Barnum didn't have an easy life. It was a roller
coaster ride, with plenty of ups and downs, friends said last week.
"She was just getting ready to go on the upswing, and she didn't
make it," her friend Wendy Bamford said.
Barnum had been staying at the Bamford house off and on for more
than a year and was preparing to move to South Carolina with her
fiancee, Raymond Artiglere. The couple was supposed to get married at
the end of the month, and Artiglere called Barnum that Friday
afternoon to tell her he had just put money down for their new house.
