Strong new evidence suggests our Milky Way galaxy is much bigger than once thought and is surrounded by a halo of invisible "dark matter" that is gobbling up a nearby galaxy, scientists said last week.

"What we're witnessing is galactic cannibalism in action," said astronomer Douglas Lin of the University of California at Santa Cruz.
