The Republican challenging Rep. James M. Murphy in the 4th Norfolk District is spending more than $65,000 of his own money in his bid to unseat the third-term incumbent.

Robert Montgomery Thomas had more than $66,000 to spend on his campaign as of Aug. 31, compared to $28,574 for Murphy.

Thomas beat Brad Bennion in the Republican primary without spending any money, according to the report he filed with the state Office of Campaign and Political Finance.
