"This is the year of the camellia," says Jack Morton, a gardener
who planted his first batch of camellia saplings 42 years ago,
shortly after he built his house in Northwest Washington and began to
turn his front lawn into a formal garden. "This is the best year of
my life with camellias."
He has about 100 camellias occupying center stage in an elaborate
garden of nearly an acre; they are surrounded by boxwood and azaleas
in the front and blend into woodland in the back.
