Cops patrol Scituate school; Random locker searches at intermediate school after overdose

SCITUATE - School administrators have begun random locker searches and police are walking the halls at the town's intermediate school after a student overdosed on an over-the-counter cold medicine last month.

Principal Richard Blake said he is not aware of any drug use at the Gates Intermediate School, but after the recent incident, school staff wanted to be proactive. Scituate's seventh- and eighth-graders go to the school.
