Gay marriage foes uncertain; Constitutional vote will be held but gay rights backers gained in election

BOSTON - The one certainty is that state legislators will meet in a constitutional convention to vote a second time on a proposal to end gay marriage in Massachusetts and create Vermont-style civil unions for same-sex couples.

Senate President Robert Travaglini pledges that legislators will get the chance to vote next year on whether to send the question to the ballot for voters to decide in November 2006.
