Sewer work aims to improve water at Wollaston Beach

QUINCY - Construction will begin next month on a multimillion-
dollar sewer replacement project near Wollaston Beach that officials
say will improve water quality in Quincy Bay.
About 11,600 feet of sewers along Quincy Shore Drive and
neighboring side streets will be replaced during the first phase of a
$12 million sewer improvement project. In many cases, century-old
pipes are crumbling, allowing sewage to escape and wash out to sea.
The problem leads to high bacteria counts that sporadically cause red
flags to fly at Wollaston Beach, a sign that the shore is closed to ...
