The Rev. John Sutton, pastor of Sacred Heart Church in Weymouth and a spiritual leader for thousands of local families, died at age 47 yesterday from complications of Crohn's disease.

His death, which came as a shock to many parishioners, was met with an outpouring of grief from those who knew him as both an inspiring priest and a caring friend.

"He was a blessing to all of us here. It's absolutely devastating," said Cathleen Smith, who worked closely with the Rev. Sutton as director of religious education at Sacred Heart. "Everyone who came in contact with him walked away ...
