Rufus happily living out final days with friends

Amy Burns had just left the shelter when she saw him trotting down Broad Street.

Incredulous, she turned and ran back into the building, yelling "Rufus is here," to her fellow volunteers.

Not getting much of a reaction, she added, "Alone! Rufus is here alone!"

That did the trick. The volunteers poured outside to greet their prodigal son.

Rufus is an 11-year-old mixed breed who may or may not have some Labrador, Border collie or sheltie in him - among other things. And until being adopted by a Braintree woman recently, the Quincy Animal Shelter on Broad Street had been his ...
