As gardeners, you may be aware of the invasive plant controversy.

It has been implied by many experts that the problem plants are all imports sold by nurseries. This is far from the truth.

Many of the invasives were brought in years ago for reasons that seemed good at the time.

The tree-of-heaven (Ailanthus altissima) was originally used as a food source for the ailanthus silk moth, an insect used in a failed attempt to produce silk in New York in the later 18th century.
