Could using a laptop computer, a hand-held video game or even an electric shaver send a modern jetliner off course?

Most experts say probably not, but Federal Aviation Administration officials yesterday advised airlines to report instances of suspected navigation interference from other electronic devices. The FAA also reminded the airlines that cellular telephones must not be used unless a plane is stopped at the gate.
